Korby Grist - Owner
Brought into the family business at 15, Korby’s first big project was removing slate from the roof of The Empress Hotel in preparation for the construction of their new reception tower. From labourer, to apprentice and later on to journeyman, Korby has done it all for Grist Slate and Tile.
He has certification as a sheet metal journeyman and is a student in the art of slate roofing. Learning the old slating techniques, Korby’s commitment to “building it to last”, is evident in the quality of his work. Now with over 20 years in the business, Korby’s knowledge makes him an excellent estimator, ensuring you receive the best price possible for top quality work. Korby carries on the Grist Slate and Tile reputation for exceptional customer service and workmanship.
Korby is a board member of the Slate Roofing Contractors Association and is a Registered Slate Roof Installation Instructor.
David Grist started in the sheet metal and roofing industry in 1967. He placed first in Western Canada in the Canadian Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Competition. David obtained his sheet metal journeyman certification in 1974. He gained experience working for local sheet metal & roofing contractors until founding Grist Slate & Tile Roofing in 1988. David’s reputation is held in the highest regard by his customers and peers. His integrity, expertise and experience are well known throughout British Columbia.
His credits include the B.C. Legislative Buildings, Nanaimo Courthouse, Nelson Courthouse, Duncan City Hall, Kamloops Courthouse, Fairmont Empress Hotel, Craigdarroch Castle, St. Anne’s Academy Building, St. Joseph’s apartments, Hatley Castle, South Park Elementary School, C.P.R. / Wax Museum Building, Government House, and many more heritage buildings and residences in the Victoria area.
David’s vast knowledge is available as both a consultant and specialty copper fabricator.
